With the launch of the rog phone 2 earlier there was much excitement. Biggest specs, a rad design and a plethora of well integrated accessories enough to drool a lake. The 120hz amoled display being the first of its kind, it grabbed a lot of headlines. Plenty of videos on YouTube, with many showing off their pubg prowess.
Then came today, the one plus 7t, which, at the same price as the rog phone 2, comes with the same internals. However, no cooling mechanism was advertised so I assume there isn’t any, unless a teardown video proves me wrong. Both have 8gb RAM and 128 gb storage with the SD855+ SOC.
These numbers point to one thing. They both are very good for high performance tasks like gaming. 90hz refresh on the oneplus isn’t bad too. In fact, there aren’t many, if any, titles to take advantage of this tech.
So where does all this put us? With the Flipkart and Amazon sale coming up, which one do you want to put your money into? Let me help you a bit with that.
In order to decide this we need to look at them from a different angle. What they can do on top of gaming is what matters. The rog phone 2 is set for gaming. It has a huge battery, extra input options via air triggers, a good collection of accessories for gaming. It lacks a good camera setup though, which in my view is quite important. Also, measure your palms before going for it cause the screen is pretty tall, only made taller by the forehead and chin. Reaching out to the screen’s centre will be a problem.
The oneplus fares well in those two aspects. A great camera setup, thin bezels and a neat default interface. It however kinda fails in comparison on the battery department. Another area where the oneplus will shine is the future proofing. Both phones are powerful, no doubt there. But eventually there will be a time when you will want to change your device. Comparing the resale values, the one plus fetches much better than a rog phone. In fact, there are very limited opportunities to sell your old rog phone.
If you are seriously into gaming and don’t mind the daily usage, it is the rog. If you want a phone which can do more things than just gaming, like the camera, then the one plus 7t.
